Pisa is a city with approx 90,000 inhabitants in the region of Tuscany, Italy, at the mouth of the river Arno in the Mediterranean. The city is the capital of the province with the same name, hosts the region's largest airport, Galileo Galilei Airport
and three universities recognized throughout Italy. Pisa was one of four Marine Republic of Italy with Genoa, Amalfi and Venice. The city was an important commercial center in the Middle Ages and controlled a significant Mediterranean fleet.
