Florence (Firenze Italian) is the capital of the Italian province of Tuscany and Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with a population of 367,569 inhabitants (1.5 million in the metropolitan area).
The city lies on Arno river and is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, especially for art and architecture. A medieval economic and commercial center, is one of the richest cities of the time, Florence is considered
the birthplace of Italian Renaissance, in fact it was called the Athens of the Middle Ages.
