Rimini is a medium-sized city of 142,579 inhabitants in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, and capital city of the Province of Rimini. It is located on the Adriatic Sea, on the coast between the rivers Marecchia (the ancient Ariminus) and Ausa (ancient Aprusa).
It is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe (sometimes called "Miami of Europe"), thanks to its 15 km-long sandy beach, over 1.000 hotels and thousands of bar, restaurants and discos. First bathing establishment opened in 1843. Rimini is also the hometown of the famous film director Federico Fellini. It also a charming city of art rich in roman and renaissance monuments.
Lounge on the 15km of beaches. Known as La Marina, the beachfront is by far the number one reason anybody comes to Rimini. Yes, there is an old town, but this is generally ignored by most tourists although its major historical and cultural value with valuable monuments dating back to Roman and medieval era.
Over winter, the marina side becomes a ghost town with a lot of shops shutting until the warm season starts up again, but the city centre is open all year round offering cultural events, good restaurants and great shopping opportunities, especially during sales period (jan-feb).
