About Rome Fiumicino Airport - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Rome Fiumicino Airport was officially opened in 1961, but the opening of the first flights took place in 1960, when the airport began to receive passengers, on the occasion of the Rome Olympics in the same year. By then, Ciampino Airport had already become crowded, so the new airport in the city of Fiumicino in the west of Rome began to become the main gateway to the Eternal Fortress.
At this moment the airport is the largest in Italy and the eighth largest airport in Europe according to the number of passengers. It is a hub for many airlines and here it is headquartered in the Italian airline Alitalia. It has 3 terminals (A, B and C), each with shops (including duty free), restaurants, information points, exchange offices and ATMs. There is also long and short term parking.
To get to the airport, the most common option for passengers is to take the buses from one of the three shuttle service companies. They have a non-stop schedule, and the trip usually lasts under an hour to central Rome. Also, besides the shuttle buses, you can reach directly by train, from Roma Termini station.
One of the easiest ways to get to the city from the airport is the train, the Leonardo express runs directly from the airport to the main station, Termini, as well as to the stations Tiburtina and Trastevere, from 30 to 30 minutes, between 6.35 - 23.35 . From Termini station to the airport, trains run from 30 to 30 minutes, between 5.50 and 22.50.
The Terravison bus operates between the airport and Rome Termini, with several stops along the way. The journey takes about 70 minutes, a ticket costs 7 euros and you need a boarding pass or a valid ticket, from one of the airlines that collaborates.
The SitBus minibus runs to and from the airport to the city center (Piazza Cavour and Stazione Termini, in Via Marsala). The bus station is in front of Terminal 3, at "Arrivals". Tickets are bought from the bus.
Rome's official taxis are white, with black identification codes, on the door. A trip from the airport to the city center costs 40 euros, with additional fees for luggage. Choose authorized taxi companies and avoid drivers who are not licensed.
Rome Fiumicino Airport | Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is the largest airport in Italy and serves alongside Ciampino Airport, the capital of Italy - Rome. It is about 20 kilometers west of Rome, in the city of Fiumicino
