      Palermo

      Palermo (Palermu in Sicilian) is a city with 860,000 inhabitants in the province of the same name in Italy, the capital of Sicily. Palermo, the main administrative town of Sicily, is situated at the foot of Mount Pellegrino.

      Palermo was founded by the Phoenicians 2,700 years ago. It became part of the Roman Republic and then the Byzantine Empire for 1,000 years. For a brief period was led by Arabs for the first time since becoming the capital of the emirate. In the twelfth century and the thirteenth century, became the first major cultural center and meeting point of cultures of Arabic, Jewish and Christian.
