Palermo (Palermu in Sicilian) is a city with 860,000 inhabitants in the province of the same name in Italy, the capital of Sicily. Palermo, the main administrative town of Sicily, is situated at the foot of Mount Pellegrino.

Palermo was founded by the Phoenicians 2,700 years ago. It became part of the Roman Republic and then the Byzantine Empire for 1,000 years.
