About Alba - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Alba - fantastic Dolomites!
Alba (1,517 m), the quieter district of Canazei, is especially well-known for its black extreme run, which descends steeply into the valley. The 3-km long descent with a 658 m difference in altitude proves a challenge for all ambitions ski freaks. Access to the pistes and tracks is made perfect with the cable car, which leaves from Alba and goes directly up to Ciampac (2,100 m).
The traditional village offers its guests numerous paths and trails, which run directly from the valley floor to the mountain peaks. These surround the resort and are a popular destination for hiking enthusiasts. Many bars invite you in to a cosy drink and in the neighbouring resort Canazei there are many further possibilities to find diverse entertainment, e.g. in the Eghe Wellness Centre.
SkiWith the lift pass “Val di Fassa-Carezza” you will have access to approx. 135 kilometres of pistes, with about 66 lifts between 1,200 - 2,625 m above sea level in the areas of Alba, Canazei, Campitello, Karersee, Pozza and Vigo which are all connected. Here various freeride and deep powder snow areas await the skiers.
Alba's ski area is especially well-known for its 3 km long extreme piste. An average decline of 28 percent makes this black piste a worthwhile experience for expert skiers. Less ambitious skiers also get their money's worth here. The Buffaure/Ciampac ski area (31.5 km of piste), with its modern lifts, is well equipped and offers primarily intermediate pistes..
With the Dolomiti Superski lift pass (for a supplement) you can even access 1,200 km of piste and 450 lifts in 12 ski areas! This includes the Sella Ronda, the approx. 40 km long day trip around the Sella Massif on skis and lifts, which starts directly in Val di Fassa..
Boarders will love the large snow parks in the Alpe Lusia-Bellamonte and Belvedere ski areas and the fun park with boarder cross at Col Rodella. Several huts along the pistes, the so-called "Rifugi", invite skiers for a snack and a drink while enjoying the sun.
Alba is less known for its copious apres ski than for its family-friendly infrastructure. Lodges on the piste are great meeting points after a days' skiing.
Local restaurants and bars attract guests in the evening with regional specialities. Several pubs offer party fans the opportunity to indulge in apres ski. Discos in nearby Canazei are best reached by taxi.
Daytime activities for off-piste opportunities abound: Alba offers a covered ice sports hall, and Val di Fassa offers paragliding, climbing, kite flying or - if you're looking for a bit of romance - horse sleigh rides and winter hikes through the snowy landscape.
Not only alpine skiers, but also cross-country skiers can enjoy the mountain landscape around Alba, as the nearest trail can be found at approx. 2,100 m. This circuit on the Ciampac is comfortably reached with the gondola and offers excellent snow conditions due to its altitude.
Cross-country fans can take advantage of a total of 60 km of trail through Val di Fassa's lovely landscape. Additionally, the "Marcialonga" starts here, the famous 70 km long stretch that runs into the Fleim Valley. This is where the annual peoples' cross-country run is held--a real highlight for every cross-country skier!
