Located about 83 m above sea level, it is after Olbia Tempio and most populous of Gallura region of northeastern Sardinia.
Located only provincial capital, about 25 km from Olbia and 45 km from Tempio plays a very important economically, being together in Olbia very dynamic, both demographic population has almost tripled since the sixties continues to rise a rate of 16% per decade, both economically and in terms of tourism and hospitality.
The town, a hamlet of Tempio until 1922 is divided into villages and within it is contained the famous tourist resort called Costa Smeralda.
