About Cavalese - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Cavalese - gateway to the Dolomites!
Cavalese (1,000 m) is the administrative centre of Val di Fiemme and wins guests with its Italian flair. Situated on a sunny terrace in Val di Fiemme, the historically important resort Cavalese, with its majestic renaissance palace, stands apart from typical winter sports resorts. Various other activities for both sports fans and culture buffs are available in Cavalese, in addition to varied days on the piste. Relax in the numerous restaurants or traditional eateries. The other resorts in Val di Fiemme also invite you to take a day trip. Here you will find indoor pools, tennis courts, an ice stadium and outdoor ice rinks.
SkiThe lift pass "Val di Fiemme-Obereggen" is valid for five very different ski areas: Alpe Cermis, Alpe Luisa-Bellamonte, Lavazé-Oclini, Passo Rolle and the Ski Centre Latemar. Winter sports fans therefore have a range of possibilities to choose from, covering 111 km of piste at 860 - 2,388 m altitude, accessible via 45 lift systems.
Beginners can test their skills on the sunny southern slopes of the Alpe Luisa. Pros can challenge the steep slopes of the Olimpia at the Alpe Cermis, just above Calvalese - here there is difference in altitude of 1,390 m, over a distance of 7.5 km leading down into the valley.
Snowboarders will also find what they are looking for in the Val di Fiemme, and can power out in the snow park at the Ski Centre Latemar which offers rails, boxes, jumps, a half-pipe and much more. Furthermore, the snow-sure winter sports paradise is also great for free riders to get a good boost of action. The individual resorts in the Val di Fiemme are connected by a ski bus.
The combined lift "Laner" with 6-person chairlift and 8-person cabin lift at Ski Center Latemar was opened in the 2016/17 winter season. It also gives you easy access to the new, approx. 750 m long toboggan run. A mountain hut made of wood and glass with panoramic terrace and bar at the Oberholz lift has also been open since December 2016 and invites you to take a break. In Alpe Cermis the children's area "Cermislandia" has a toboggan and a "Tubbybahn" as well as a practice area for the ski school. After a long day on skis you can warm up and make yourself comfortable at the modern lounge-bar "La Baita Tonda".
In all ski areas in the Fleimstal there is a rich choice of possibilities to make an adventurous day fade relaxingly. Visit one of the quaint huts to catch the last shafts of sunlight or enjoy the scenic area, spoil yourself with culinary dishes in a mountain hut or enjoy yourself in one of the many bars or clubs with music and party atmosphere. Especially Cavalese offers restaurants with regional or international dishes as well as numerous pubs and bars. The "Cermisfera Fashion Lounge Bar" isn't just the ideal place to enjoy the rest of the sun and start the aprés ski fun after a long day of skiing. It's also a great destination for night skiing lovers, as its located directly at the end of the Olimpia 3 slope, which can be illuminated at night.
Also the Fleimstal is an ideal holiday destination for hikers and nature fans. Snow shoe hikers will find a lot of opportunities to discover the the winter landscape as well as the easy and the difficult tours. Nordic walking fans will also find many hiking routes. A snow shoe hike in the moon light or tobogganing under the stars along the lit piste in Obereggen is especially romantic, thanks to the floodlight up to 22:00 on several days during the week. Starting in winter 16/17 you can reach the new, approx. 750 m toboggan run that runs from the Almgasthaus Epircher-Laner down to the valley station of the Absam-Maierl charlift with the combined lift "Laner" in Latemar. A total of 9 toboggan runs can be found in the Eggen valley.
The "cradle of cross-country skiing", as Val di Fiemme is often called, is a true paradise for all cross-country enthusiasts. There's a reason why it has hosted the Nordic Ski World Championships three times - in 1991, 2003 and in 2013! The traditional Marcialonga run has also taken place here since 1971; this run covers 70 km through Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa. The area offers a total of 150 km of track and offers beginners as well as advanced skiers a varied trail network.
The high-altitude trails at Lavazè Pass (2,150 m) are a very special experience, lead through a fantastic mountain landscape at an altitude of 1,800 m with various levels of difficulty. The longest track can be found in Deutschnofen-Petersberg and, with its 25 km, requires good amount of stamina. At Lago di Tesero, the core of the cross-country sports in the Fleimstal you will not find the 3 km long flood light light track but also the Nordic ski stadium, with its modern cross-country and jump pits of the world championships.
Near Cavalese the trails go directly past the valley station of the Alpe Cermis, meaning that an uncomplicated entry to the cross-country fun in Fleimstal is possible. This allows for a connection to the legendary Marcialonga, which leads through the whole Val di Fiemme and is one of the longest snow-covered trails world-wide. It can be skied along in either the classic or in the skating-style.
