The island is part of the province of Livorno and is divided into eight municipalities with a total population of about 30,000 inhabitants, which increases considerably during the summer.
Municipalities are Portoferraio, which is also the island's main town, with Campo nell'Elba, Capoliveri, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina and Rio nell'Elba.
Isle d'Elba, an island located between Tyrrhennian amazing and the Ligurian Sea, is the largest of the Tuscan archipelago.
It is easily reached from Piombino with Moby Lines and Toremar both ferries. There is also an airport on the island, Marina di Campo that is served by international flights InterSky (Friedrichshafen, Munich and Zurich), and ElbaFly for national routes.
