The name of the village appears for the first time in a document from 937 under the name of Garniano. The passages of the Roman historian Titus Livius and the inscriptions on the headstones attest the presence of Etruscans, Celts, Cenomanians and Romanians.
Between 1350 and 1426, the Gargnano territory was a possession of the Visconti of Milan, later a possession of the Republic of Venice.
In 1866, Gargnano was bombed by the Austrian navy during the battle on Lake Garda, which was part of the third Italian war of independence.
Gargnano enjoys a central position in the Parco dellAlto Garda Bresciano nature reserve. Gargnano and its peripheral villages Villa and Bogliaco are located on the lake, while Villavetro, Fornico and Zuino villages nest on the gentle ridge above, surrounded by olive groves. About 500 meters above sea level, the hill is home to five other villages: Liano, Formaga, Navazzo, Sasso and Musaga. Located outside the other villages is Muslone, at the top of a steep rock overlooking the lake, while Costa is surrounded by the greenery of nature, 18 kilometers from Gargnano. In the interior territory Gargnanos also includes another lake, Valvestino, an authentic fjord, located between the mountains of the valley from which it takes its name, and the municipal territory, with its thirteen villages, extends to embrace land and remarkable lifestyles. varied, from the lake to the plain to the mountain, offering visitors a wide and varied range of environment, social, sporting and culinary experiences.
