About Livigno - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Livigno - snow and shopping paradise!
Livigno is located on the sun-drenched side of the Lombardy Alps, not far from St. Moritz. The popular resort is situated at a snow-sure 1,816 m, and hosts several international competitions; it is also known across its borders as a duty-free shopping paradise. The district Trepalle (1,900-2,250 m) is the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe.
Traditional wooden houses dot the village, and the resorts location on the southern side of the Alps ensures that the valley is drenched with sun. The broad pistes are always well prepared, and the attractive snow parks offer boarders all that their hearts desire. After a day of skiing the cosy mountain lodges invite you in for a bit of apres ski with Italian flair. Or look around some of the duty-free shops and enjoy tax-free shopping. In Livigno's duty-free zone, you'll be able to purchase not just perfume, alcohol and cigarettes (with restrictions on export), but also clothes, watches, cameras, and petrol at up to 40% savings! Prices are also reasonable near the slopes, meaning one thing: More holiday for less money!
Ski115 kilometres of piste, 31 lift systems, and lovely, broad slopes - that is exactly what you'll find with the lift pass "Livigno"! The resort offers great snow security due to its altitude (1,816 - 2,798 m) and numerous snow-making systems.
The pistes cover both sides of the valley, ensuring you'll always be able to ski in the sun. Freeriders will enjoy many deep snow opportunities on the Carosello side and large snowparks on both Mottolino and Carosello with a half-pipe, various kickers, rails, and a boardercross track which offers a whole lot of fun. Thanks to its marvellous fun parks, Livigno repeatedly is one of the most popular host resorts for snow championships, which are always worth seeing! One of the few black pistes is called Monte Neve-Valfin, but otherwise the ski area is rather dominated by an intermediate level of skiing slopes. There are practice slopes near the town for beginners to practice their first moves.
An annual highlight is the "La Skieda" telemark festival, which offers motto parties, introductory courses and equipment tests, and provides a lot of fun. The popularity of the high valley is also accredited to the perfect transition from town to ski area!
In the ski area, 3 free-of-charge Wi-Fi hotspots are at your disposal.
In the ski area and valley stations there are many rustic mountain restaurants offering big-time après ski fun! Livigno does not pale in comparison to Austrian après ski destinations. Be sure you try the regional speciality "Bombardino", a warm drink which has been invented over 40 years ago in the Tea del Vidal- Livigno's Après-Ski Bar Number 1! With the choice between many bars, pubs, cafés, cosy restaurants as well as a wine bar and disco, you're sure never to be bored after a day on the slopes!
Further attractive offers include tobogganing, ice skating, ice climbing, 20 km of winter hiking trails, snowmobiling, horseback riding, bowling, billiards, swimming pool and a fitness centre. Those wanting to get to know Livigno's traditional and cultural side can take a tour through the various churches. One of them is from the 17th century and houses interesting art treasures.
Due to its special geographical location, Livigno was declared a duty-free zone - a dream come true for all shopping enthusiasts!
Livigno provides you with 30 km of cross-country skiing run for your ski holidays. Here the season is opened every year in December with the cross-country skiing marathon "La Sgambeda". Due to the high altitude of the upper valley, the area of Livigno is the ideal terrain for cross-country skiing!
The approx. 20 km "Pista Turistica" is a treat for all well exercised skiers. The high-altitude trail "Pista Agonistica Molino" is 10 km long and actually often used for international competitions. If you would like to exercise at a later time in the day you can try out the 2 km lit run.
