Pfalzen - winter idyll at Plan de Corones!
Pfalzen is situated at 1,220 m in Val Pusteria and is known for its beautiful, sunny location. A mix of Italian and Austrian cooking is also a treat. Typical specialities from the area include "Hasenöhrl" and "Tirtlan". For those who want to enjoy more than these tasty delicacies, Pfalzen offers various sports and free time activities. Tobogganing, curling, or a romantic winter walk offer something for young and old! Plan de Corones ski region, which can be easily reached with the ski bus, offers wide, groomed piste for all ski and snowboarders. The area is considered one of the few modern ski areas in the Alps where 100% of the piste are able to be covered by snow cannons in case snowflakes don't fall.
SkiThe ski area around Plan de Corones (2,275 m), South Tyrol's no. 1 ski mountain, offers more than just a little skiing fun with the lift pass "Kronplatz". Thanks to the several snow-making systems, the area is snow-secure from December to April. 119 kilometres of piste and 32 modern lift systems between 973 - 2,275 m provide unforgettable ski enjoyment for big and small.
Beginners, children and families will love "CroniExpress" with its 8-person gondola; here you will find a 100 m wide piste with a 160 m difference in altitude. The Plan de Coronoes is known as a very child friendly ski area with many attractions for the small ones. For instance, "Croniworld" can be found at the peak of Plan de Corones, where parents can watch their children's progress and at the same time enjoy a beautiful 360° panorama. In the ski area there are over 200 ski teachers that look forward to showing the best tricks in private or group courses.
The "Sylvester" and "Herrnegg" valley runs, however, challenge even experts and experienced alpinists! Two floodlit pistes are available for night skiing. Snowboarders can burn off steam on the half-pipe. No other ski area is so diverse and varied as Plan de Corones! The area is also known as host to various sports events, e.g. Snowboard World Cup, Biathalon World Championship or the international Valle di Casies run, the largest sporting event in South Tyrol.
For the last season, Plan de Corones has upgraded: The popular Sonnenlift has been replaced, completely renewed and equipped with many new features such as seat heaters or protective hoods. Free Wi-Fi is available in the Miara gondola, and the snowmaking systems have been improved. The 18/19 season also offers a new gondola in St. Vigil. The "Skitrans Bronta" is the shortest 12-seater gondola in the world and connects the valley stations of the "Miara" and "Pedagá" gondolas. The 6-person chair lift "Arndt" has also been renewed and now has ergonomic leather seats and a footrest lock.
For an even larger selection, you can upgrade to the lift pass "Dolomiti Superski" and choose from 1,200 kilometres of piste and 450 lifts.
At many ski pass sales locations in the "Kronplatz" ski area, you have free-of-charge access to Wi-Fi hotspots. With an upgrade to the "Dolomiti Superski" ski pass, even more hotspots in mountain railway stations and in restaurants in the different ski areas are available.
Various après ski bars with great music and atmosphere await you directly at the Plan de Corones lift valley station in Reischach! After returning to Pfalzen, numerous cosy restaurants invite you to spend a lovely evening indoors.
During the day, Pfalzen offers various other opportunities for a sporty holiday in addition to skiing. The cross-country tracks promise both beginners and experienced skiers a lot of fun, as do the ice skating rinks and toboggan runs. If that's still not enough, you can participate in curling or take a winter hike. Also the spa paradise "Cron4" offers lots of fun and relaxation. From Pfalzen you can directly access the sprawling cross-country trails at Plan de Corones. The area boasts a total of 300 km of tracks, some of which were part of the World Cup.
The longest is the Valle di Casies track at 42 km. The Valle di Casies run, South Tyrol's largest sports event and a highlight for all cross-country fans, takes place on this track each year. Furthermore, the Val Pusteria ski marathon takes place here each year in January. Especially pretty tracks can be found in Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park near St. Vigil. Wonderful high-altitude tracks await you in the biathlon centre of Antholz as well as at Peitlerkofel.
