About Praiano - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Praiano is a town and Comune di province of Salerno in the Campania region of southwestern Italy. It is located on the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana), a prime tourist location for the region and Italy both between Amalfi and Positano towns.
The name comes from Praia city, or beach, pelagium from the Latin word meaning "open sea." In the 10th century, 11 Praiano was once the summer residence of the Doge of Amalfi Republic.
One popular attraction is the church of San Luca Evangelista, dating back to 1123. Inside, there are paintings by Giovanni Bernardo Lama Renaissance painter dating from the 16th century.
Another attraction is the church of San Giovanni Battista, featuring a tiled Maiolica well preserved, dating from the 12th-13th.
