St. Lorenzen - wintry idyll at Plan de Corones!
St. Lorenzen (813 m) is situated in a wide valley bowl in Val Pusteria. The Plan de Corones ski region is only 5 km away and offers an extra special experience for boarders, carvers and pleasure skiers! Modern lift systems, well-prepared pistes and beautiful views make this ski area one of the loveliest in the Dolomites. The St. Lorenzen community offers tradition and idyll - just the right thing for anyone seeking rest and relaxation! Whether Sonnenburg castle, prehistoric cult sites or the excavation at the Roman settlement Sebatum: St. Lorenzen is especially influenced by culture. The smaller villages and communities are also developed for tourism and promise a wonderful stay in a gorgeous natural landscape.
SkiThe ski area around Plan de Corones (2,275 m), South Tyrol's no. 1 ski mountain, offers more than just a little skiing fun with the lift pass "Kronplatz". Thanks to numerous snow-making systems, the area is snow-secure from December to April. 116 km of piste and 31 modern lift systems between 935 - 2,275 m provide unforgettable ski enjoyment for young and young at heart.
Beginners, children and families will love "CroniExpress" with its 8-person gondola; here you will find a 100 m wide piste with a 160 m difference in altitude. The Plan de Corones is known as a very child friendly ski area with many attractions for the little ones, for instance "Croniworld", which can be found at the peak of Plan de Corones, where parents can watch their children's progress and at the same time enjoy a beautiful 360° panorama view. The longest run is the 6 km descent to Olang-Gassl, covering an altitude difference of 1,096 m.
The "Sylvester" and "Herrnegg" valley runs, however, challenge even experts and experienced Alpine enthusiasts! Freestylers can burn off steam on the half-pipe. No other ski area is so diverse and varied as Plan de Corones! The area is also known as host to various sports events, e.g. Snowboard World Cup.
For an even larger selection, you can upgrade to the lift pass "Dolomiti Superski" and choose from 1,200 km of piste and 455 lifts!
In the ski area "Kronplatz" you can access free Wi-Fi hotspots at many of the lift pass offices. Additionally, with the lift pass upgrade to the "Dolomiti Superski" you can make use of further hotspots at the mountain stations and huts within the ski area.
A holiday at Plan de Corones means variety and fun for young and young at heart! Numerous apres ski bars, discos and pubs provide a great atmosphere in the evening. Countless activities such as ice climbing, snow shoe hiking, natural ice rinks with ice hockey and broom hockey, curling and tobogganing ensure action-packed hours away from the slopes. Regularly scheduled carriage rides, moonlight hikes and torch hikes, ski and snowboard races and trekking rides are offered. Or dare yourself into the unexpected heights of Europe's longest Zip-Line. 80 km/h can be reached when racing down the line at St. Vigil in Enneberg, secured and accompanied by professional trainers.
If you'd rather enjoy a relaxing evening, visit the wine taverns, restaurants or pizzerias, as well as the cinema, library, theatre, concerts and spa areas. St. Lorenzen also offers an archaeological nature trail, which you can explore and hike, and you can also visit the lovely Sonnenburg Castle. You can also pick up on the resort's history in "Antiquarium", which is part of the Mansio Sebatum Museum.
Cross-country skiers can access the extensive network directly from St. Lorenzen or from neighbouring Bruneck. In total the area offers 226 km of prepared trails, some have even been part of World Cup contests. Just as many skating tracks run parallel.
The "Gsiesertal" trail has the most kilometres, with a length of 42 km. Here you will find the annual Gsiesertal run, the largest sports event in South Tyrol and a highlight for all cross-country fans! Additionally, the Val Pusteria ski marathon is held here each year in January. Trails running through especially lovely landscape can be found in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags nature park at St. Vigil. Great high-altitude trails await you in Anterselva, as well as at Peitlerkofel.
