The region is subdivided into four provinces: Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro and Oristano, have been proposed for another four provinces: Olbia-Tempio, Ogliastra, Carbonia-Iglesias Medio Campidano), which would be expected during this deca (see also towns Sardinia).

Sardinian economy is today focused on tourism, industry, commerce and information technology services, increasing revenue comes from the famous wines and gastronomy. On its territory there are several gold and silver mines.
