About Sesto - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Sexten - The village of the Drei Zinnen!
At the exit of Alta Pusteria is a wonderful place in South Tyrol: Sexten valley. In the centre of the valley, flanked by several 3000 m high peaks and the Tre Cime nature park is the main resort Sexten, situated on an altitude of 1,310 m. Alpinists, lovers of nature, romantics and visitors interested in culture will find the perfect starting point for diverse ski holidays. Apart from the ski area right above the village, the muncipality of Sexten offers many leisure time activities. After skiing you can choose between three toboggan runs with lengths of up to 6.5 km. The Rotwand run is illuminated in the evening, so that you can go tobogganing until it's time to end the day in one of the nearby mountain huts.
If you prefer it a little more comfy, you should try out a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy larch meadows. You can go play curling in the Sports Centre Dolomitiarena Sexten, or test your own strength in a climbing lesson in Nordic Arena. The futuristic building made from wood and glass is 23 m high, which makes it the largest indoor climbing hall in Italy. Fans of hiking can look forward to the densest network of hiking trails in all of South Tyrol.
SkiThe lift pass "Drei Zinnen Dolomiten" gives you access to approx. 93 km of piste which are accessible via 45 lift systems. Alta Pusteria offers several small and cosy but diverse ski areas in between the resorts Sexten, Innichen an Toblach: soft slopes for beginners and families, more demanding pistes for experienced skiers and pleasure skiers, and extremes for professionals who can prove their skills on the pistes "Raut" and "Holzriese".
With its approx. 39 km, the Sexten/Helm - Rotwand ski area offers the largest selection of pistes. The ski area can be reached from both Sexten and Vierschach. Below the rock faces of Rotwandspitze you can find especially challenging pistes, such as e.g. "Holzriese 2", which is one of the steepest pistes in Italy. It has a decline of 7 %, and passes 300 m in altitude on a length of 700 m. On Rotwand meadows, everybody can test their speed limit on a racing piste with time measurement. In Innichen, in the Haunold ski area, you can look forward to 8 km of piste. If you want to ski around the entire valley, you should dare the "Giro Delle Cime", the Sexten Domolmites round course. The day tour leads over five mountains and approx. 30 km of piste, passing alotgether approx. 9,700 m in altitude.
Since the 2014/15 winter, unchecked skiing fun is possible without having to commute from one mountain to the other, and the area was connected further. With the newly build 8-person gondola "Drei Zinnen", the "Helm" part of the ski area was joined to the "Rotwand" part. The new connection also gave room for two new pistes with a total length of 5 km.
After skiing, the family-friendly ski area is a rather quiet place. However, you can of course enjoy the rest of your evening in one of the quaint mountain huts or typical restaurants and cafés.
Everybody who wants to stay active after skiing all day can look forward to ice skating, curling as well as several toboggan runs in and around Sexten. Alternatively, you can let off steam in the tennis hall, and then relax your muscles in the public indoor pool.
Alta Pusteria is a paradise for cross-country skiers. With more than 200 km of prepared trails it is part of the worldwide largest cross-country ski network connection "Dolomiti Nordicski" (with a total of 1,300 km trails).
In and around Sexten you can find 40 km of well-prepared cross-country ski trails. Leading through the diverse mountain landscape, the trails are prepared in both classic and skating style. Beginners and wallowers will enjoy the easy 4.7 km circuit track through idyllic Fischlein valley nearby the Tre Cime peaks. Complete beginners in Nordic skiing can look forward to three practise trails on Lärchenwiese, Schönfelder and Waldheim. The 7.5 km trail Moos-Kreuzbergpass is rather challenging.
