About St. Vigil - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
St. Vigil – Fun for skiers and nature lovers alike!
The Dolomites encircle the village like a crown, and the nature park Fanes-Sennes-Prags begins directly at the end of the resort. The location couldn't be more idyllic. This is how the South Tyrolean mountain village of St. Vigil enchants with is Alpine charm and unique culture - of which includes residents speaking Ladin, as well as preservation of the Ladin traditions.
The village impresses with its Baroque-style parish church in the centre and its cosy little wooden houses built in an Alpine style. Visitors can truly enjoy serenity and nature, but also the close proximity to one of South Tyrol's most popular ski mountains, the Kronplatz. With the Miara gondola, you can make your way directly into the ski area with 119 km of piste. Here, winter sports fans transform into experts: Both the Italian ski racers Manuela and Manfred Mölgg originally come from St. Vigil.
SkiWith the "Kronplatz" lift past, you receive access to South Tyrol's Nr. 1 ski mountain with a total of 119 km of piste and 32 access points at an altitude between 973 m and 2,275 m. Thanks to its numerous snow cannons, this ski area counts as "snow secure" from December to April.
The 8-person "CroniExpress" gondola is especially designed for beginners, children and families. Here, you can expect a 100 m wide piste with 160 m altitude variation. The Kronplatz is known for its very family-friendly ski area with numerous offers for children. On the Kronplatz peak, parents can view their children's progress in the "Croniworld" while simultaneously taking in the breathtaking 360° panoramic view. Another great kids park can also be found at the entrance to St. Vigil.
For experienced Alpinists, the "Black Five" - five black runs - pose an exciting challenge. Belonging to the fantastic five are the "Sylvester," the "Herrnegg," the "Pre da Peres," the "Erta," and the "Piculin." Two floodlight pistes are available for night skiing. Snowboarders can let off steam in the Snowpark on the halfpipe. The Kronplatz ski area is also known for its hosting of diverse sporting events such as the Snowboard World Cup.
During the previous season the Plan de Corones was upgraded: the popular Sonnenlift was replaced, completely renewed and many new features like heated seats and protective covers were added. The Miara cabins now have free Wi-Fi and the artificial snow-making facilities were improved.
In the ski area, at many of the lift pass offices, you'll find free Wi-Fi hotspots. Additionally, with the "Dolomiti Superski" upgraded lift pass, further hotspots are available at the mountain stations and culinary establishments in the various ski areas. The connecting lift pass gives you the choice between 1,200 km of piste and 450 lifts!
The evenings in St. Vigil round off on a rather quiet note. You can enjoy a great meal with tasty South Tyrolean delicacies and sit comfortably together with a glass of wine. Whoever likes can also take part in a skittles party. Apres ski fanatics can look to the surrounding areas of the Kronplatz region - namely directly at the valley stations. For example, in Olang and Bruneck, you can find several apres ski bars.
Of course, you can also end your day of skiing on a more sporting note, such as taking a winter hike through the gorgeous Fanes-Sennes-Prags nature park or participating in a guided snowshoe hike. If it's atmosphere you're after, a trip to the nature reserve at the visitor's centre is worth looking into. This is also a great place for families with children to discover.
For a fast-paced evening, tobogganing and ice skating are where you'll find your thrills. Daredevils can also take to the sky in St. Vigil on Europe's longest zipline! This one of a kind "balancing act" is an exciting yet safe attraction that delivers an adrenaline kick at a length of 3 km. With experienced trainers and special rollers with built-in brakes, you can ride safely over 10 stations at 400 m altitude into the valley. You'll even reach speeds of up to 80 km/h!
A total of 23 km of cross-country trails are available to check out in St. Vigil. The trails begin at the edge of the resort and take you through forests and over mountain meadows found in the nature park. Because the trails are spread out over different rings, you not only have the opportunity to head back to the village at any time, but can also equally find trails for beginners and experts - regardless of whether they're in the classical- or skating style. The trails are between 0.3 and 10 km long, and sometimes even reach up to a full 23 km long. The trails can be used for free.
Whoever is still looking for more should take a look at the entire Kronplatz region - over 200 km of trails are available to use. In connection with the "Dolomiti NordicSki," Europe's largest cross-country ski carousel, there's even a total of up to around 1,000 km of trails!
