Vicenza is a city in the Veneto region of northern Italy, with a population of 119.038 inhabitants.
Vicenza is located at the foot Berici, at the confluence and Bacchiglione Retron. The city dates from Roman times.
Most sites are in the sixteenth century, the golden age of the city. These include Palladian Basilica, considered the masterpiece of architect Palladino, and other monumental buildings - Fontana Porto, Porto-Breganze, Casarotti Da Schio and Casa del Palladio.
Cathedral dates from the fourteenth century and is an example of Gothic - Renaissance, with a Venetian polyptych.
The city has an active industrial sector, which is famous especially in jewelry and clothing factories. Gold exhibition is famous worldwide and is held in Vicenza three times a year in January, June and September.
The most spectacular building in the city is the Teatro Olimpico, Palladio's last work. Located in Piazza Matteotti, the theater is built of wood, with seats arranged in a semicircle. Perspective is used to stage a very deep impression.
Due to the works of architect Andrea Palladino, the city of Vicenza was passed by the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994.
