Nazzano Regional Nature Reserve, Tevere - Farfa The first Lazio regional protected area established in 1979, it protects an extended wetland area called the "Lake Nazzano", formed after the construction of a dam on the Tevere river. After more than a quarter
of a century, the vegetation adapted to changing environmental conditions, and the protection regime did the rest. Today, this is one of the most interesting sites in central Italy for bird watching and the fascinating and little-known marsh world.
The National Museum and the archaeological area of Lucus Feroniae is located at the entrance to the archaeological area, it is on two levels. The introductory hall offers a historical-topographic overview of the archaeological site, which owes its name to
the sanctuary of the Italian goddess Feronia, the protector of health and fields, much revered by slaves and freedmen.
The sanctuary was in a "frontier" place, a true crossroads of cultures, a place of market and frequentation by the Faliscan-Capenati, Etruscan, Sabine and Roman peoples.
